Tension in Ilorin as flood takes over community



...Residents recount ordeals

The persistence in the heavy downpour in Kwara State has made a lot of people homeless and so many houses destroyed especially in the city of Ilorin the state capital.

National Moonlight observed that Mobo phase 1 off Amilegbe road, Ilorin, Ilorin East Local Government Area of the state was heavily affected as residents recount ordeal.

In an interview with a resident of the community, Oluwafemi Adeleke disclosed that the level of destruction is devastating, "it's quite unfortunate because the flood has affected many people's property and even took lives" she lamented.

Ibrahim Umar who is a member of Evangelical Church of Yaweh, a Church situated at the area also revealed that in the recent year,  flood has been a constant occurrence in the area and has led to drastic reduction of members of the Church, he then called for government's intervention. 

Another resident, Mrs kehinde popularly known as 'Iya Ayo' said whenever rain is pouring, they don't sleep because they know they are in danger, according to her, all they do is to start packing their property and move away before it get worse.


 She said the flood has taken over most of the road, forcing residents to either remain indoor or move around through the water. "The government came to some days ago to investigate the over flooding, they only urged the people to move away till further notice" she noted.

 She therefore appealed to the government of Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq to provide drainage and other logistic, act promptly to stop the menace for the good of the community and Kwara as a state.
