Street beggars appeal to KWSG on order

Street Beggars in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital

Kwara State Head of Visual Impaired people (Sarkin Makafi) Mallam Muhammadu Sanni, has urged the Kwara state government to give the association more time to re-organize themselves in order to comply with government's directive for them to vacate some streets within Ilorin metropolises.

Muhammadu sanni made this appeal while reacting to the State Government's order prohibiting begging in some streets within the state's capital.

According to him, “Concerning the new development and order by the kwara state government ordering us to disappeared and vacate some areas in Ilorin, the kwara state capital, we the (Almajiris) street beggars want to use this medium in pleading with our loving and caring Governor to please consider our plight and have mercy on us by extending the date from 17th of this month to another date to enable us make necessary preparations.

"We are law abiding, peace loving and would always want to cooperate with the government.

The head of the beggars said Governor Abdulraham has promised to build houses  with necessary social amenities, hospitals with free medical services, islamic and orthodox schools with mosques for the street beggars across the state.

He urged the state government to senticise people on the new arrangement in to ensure total compliance by all and sundry.

The head of the beggars disclosed that he has sent a delegation to the kwara state Ministry of Environment and social development for consensus by stakeholders on government's directive.

According to him, areas where government has prohibited begging are Airport, Odota, Gerin Alimi, Unity, Challenge, Post office, Maraba, Tanke and Shoprite Mall in fate area. Others areas include Kwara Hotel and Offa Garage.
