Residents of 'Oja-Oba' area, Lateju Community in Ilorin, Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State have lamented the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in a place directly facing the Ilorin Central Mosque.

Magaji of Abudu, Lateju community, Mallam Bolakale Ajadi Olateju disclosed that the act is the reason behind the constant traffic jam in the area.

According to him "we have 16 compounds under Lateju Community and we held a meeting where we resolved to call on Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) to evacuate the refuse which have been constituting nuisance in the environment.

"The agency promised to be coming every morning to pack the refuse but never faithful to their claims. We held another meeting and called on Private Environmental Agency to eventually get the site clean" he said.

A resident of the Community, Alhaji Yakubu Olateju said that the attribute of residents towards keeping the city clean is deplorable; adding that, dumping of refuse in an open space like that is bad and offensive.

According to him, the refuse could be a breeding ground for mosquitoes and also lead to outbreak of diseases.

Bolakale however appealed to the government of Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq to ensure that refuse at every area of the metropolis are being disposed regularly in a bid to keep the state clean.
