Holistic Corner: Team Kwara: Special thanks to Revenue House

By Opeyemi Daniel

The Kwara State Internal Revenue Service is known to be an agency strategically set up to collect revenue for the state for smooth running of affairs, though, through Community Impact Service (CIP), the agency has imparted in the lives of the citizenry in no small measure but little did I know that it is a potential source of development for sports and encouragement for athletes generally.

Now, I have seen it and can testify to the agency's great contribution in ensuring the youths of Kwara State live a meaningful and gainful life via sports in which such gesture must be replicated by other government agencies, corporate bodies for posterity.

I could remember the effort of the service for the Team Kwara during the 2018 National Sports Festival held in Abuja, the agency donated track suits for the athletes cash and some other things pivotal to their success at the competition.
The agency also gave a boost to the team by promising each medallist a cash gift based on the kind of medal they won.

We could see the result, Team Kwara came home with medals by different athletes and brought glory to our state due to the gallant contribution of the KW-IRS, no wonder the Director of Sports in the state, Tunde Kazeem confessed that the gesture was first of its kind in the history of the state.

After the service has supported and made promises, Team Kwara had gone and come back home with their hopes high, what is next is the fulfilment of promise made.

It is easy to make promises but so difficult to fulfil, in the Revenue House, to fulfil any promise made is as easy and simple as drinking water after a meal.
Last week, KW-IRS fulfilled its promises and splashed a whopping sum of N500.000 on gold medallist, N300.000 on silver and bronze medallists respectively, a gesture that is unrivalled by any revenue agency in the country.

This will spur the athletes to up their games and give the state the best they could give at every point in time, if managed well, I know it will change the lives of the youths for better and even place them on the world scene on their choice of career.

Sports is never a thing to toy with in the state from the beginning, though there may be some set-backs in the past but with this that the service has done, it is certain that all has gone back to their normal positions and Kwara is always a team to beat at any level.

This is what we crave for, what we are longing for, that government and private individuals to invest in youths through sports and make the society a better place for all of us.

Thanks to the Executive Chairman of the service, Prof. Muritala Awodun, the brain behind all good works in the agency, the administrator per excellence, the sailor of the ship of progress.

Athletes in the state are grateful, sports lovers are also thankful.
