The Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS) has raked in a sum of over N6.2b as Internally Generated Revenue in the first quarter of the year 2019.

This was revealed to pressmen by the Executive Chairman of the service, Prof. Muritala Awodun at the quarterly press briefing of the service held in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Communications last Thursday.

He said for them to have arrived at that figure, a total sum of N2.1b was collected in the month of January, they generated N1.76b in February, while N 2.38b was realized in the month of March to wrap up the quarter with over N6.2b.

Awodun noted that based on research, the state has an annual potential of N60b, N5b on a monthly basis, adding that for them to actualize this, they must take it systematically and that is exactly what they are doing, saying that in the next four years, it could be realized due to the foundation they have built so far.

The don also said, the expected figure for the year is to make N3b per month adding that with the way things are going, the targeted monthly amount would be realized in the subsequent months.

He said the state has improved greatly in terms of collection, noting that before 2015, she was number three in IGR in the North Central, behind Benue and Plateau states but Kwara has maintained the number 1 spot since 2016.

Comparing with the South Western states he said that it is only Oyo State that is ahead of Kwara expressing that Lagos and Ogun states are to be placed separately due to their huge industrial prowess.

According to him, before 2016, 62 projects were abandoned and since Infrastructural Kwara Fund (IF-K) began, all the projects were revived and completed and then government embarked on new ones and being funded without the state going into borrowing.

In the same vein, the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Alhaji Ishak Sabi commended the great work the Executive Chairman has done since he came on board.

Sabi described Awodun as an exemplary leader due to his distinctiveness in the service and commended Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed for taking the necessary steps of putting the right man in place, saying that is the reason for the huge success in the state.
