Lionel Messi set to retire, as he targets champions league trophy

By Ganiyu Ibrahim

Barcelona star Lionel Messi has disclosed that he will retire when his contact ends and is also targeting champions league glory this season.

Barcelona forward Messi signed a bumper new contract last season, meaning he will be at the Nou camp until 2021 at least.

Messi remains Barcelona's biggest player despite the La Liga side investing heavily in the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Ousmane Dembele and Malcom in recent years. But the Barcelona player has now sperked fears of his retirement by saying he may go when his current deal expires.

Messi said, I see my self playing football until I finish my contract, then we will talk to the club if I have to go on or not, I am not worried.
Lionel Messi is though, targeting more champions league glory with Barcelona with the club yet to win the prize since 2015. In that time, Real Madrid have dominated the competition, winning it three times in a row.

Messi added, it's time to win it again. We have been knocked out in the quarter finals in the last three seasons. Last season's result in Rome hurt especially, but we have a spectacular squad and we can fight for it this season.

Meanwhile, Barcelona legend Ronaldinho thinks the club should retire his old number 10 shirt when Messi calls it a day. And he said Messi is the best in the Club's history and has done what no one else could.

I hope it stays that way for another 20 years at least. For anyone who loves football, we would like keep him at this level for many more years.

When Messi retires, which I hope will be a long time from now, they should leave the number 10 there so that nobody can touch it again.
