Ilorin residents cry out over blackout

Residents of Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State have called on the management and staff of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBDC) to restore power back to areas that have been in darkness for over a month.
Speaking with our reporter in Ilorin, the state capital, the coordinator of Pakata Feeder Committee, Comrade Ismail Alada said, "The total blackouts in those areas are as a result of electricity power brokers at saw mill transmission plant.
He pleaded with the Distribution Company to replace the faulty power situation in order to revive business activities in the affected areas.
According to him, the affected areas are Pakata, Ita-Kudimoh, Adeta, Kuntu, Adabata, Alore, Oloje, Abemi, Popo-Giwa, Ita-Ogunbo, Abemi and Abata-Subanu all in the council area.
He noted that the economy of such communities have been badly affected by the protracted blackout, stressing that lives were becoming unbearable to those residents.
Also speaking, the Secretary of the Committee, MallamKehindeEleyele said hoodlums had taken advantage of the power outage to attack residents and steal their properties.
The secretary, however, frowned at the services of IBEDC Baboko branch which he said has wreaked havoc on the people's welfare before leading to protest in those areas.
In his contribution, a retired civil servant in the state, Mallam Musa Yahaya lamented the power outage in some areas which encouraged crimes in many affected communities and called on the distribution company to save the communities from total darkness.
Responding, MallamYahaya, who is a community leader in Alanamu area, implored the management of IBEDC as a matter of urgency come to the aid of people to ensure that electricity is restored to the affected communities to enhance full fledged commercial activities.
