Ramadan market survey: Traders lament over low patronage

Traders in Oja Oba Market have expressed concerns over the low patronage of wares in recent times especially now that Ramadan is knocking at the doors of Muslims across the world.

During a market survey conducted by moonlight metro yesterday at OJaoba main market,  the Chairman Oja-Oba Traders Association, Mr Hassan Ayinla Agaka said that the price of a sack of beans last year was N18,000 but now it has shot up to  N33,000 as a result of crises in the Northern part of Nigeria.
He lamented that the low patronage of customers has been characterized with the  increasing price in food stuffs, pointing out that government workers are yet to collect their salaries.

Another trader in the market,  Mrs Aishat Subair said that local rice is being sold for N350 per plastic cup measurement and imported rice is selling at the rate of N450 with no increment in the price, she said price of Egusi ingredient is now N1,200, per plastic cup measurement and groundnut oil  is presently selling for N350, guinea corn goes for N200, while .gari price stands at 120 Naira.

According to Mr. OmotoshoAlabi who sells semovita, rice and spaghetti says the price of Bag of Rice was N14,000 before but  now N14,200 Slim  spaghetti is now  N3,600, to N4,000 and 50kg semovita N3,500, N5,500 respectively.

Akorede Idi Ape known as IyaHawau Alata said basket of tomato is N5,000 before but now N20,000 and N22,000 respectively due to the season and not  because of Ramadan.

However, A yam seller Miss Rasheedat Abdul Kareem says the price is still N400- N700 for both the big and small tubers.

The sellers urges the government to pay workers' salaries so as to increase the outurn of buyers in the market.
