Offa LG inaugurates 13-man BOT to drive youth and sports development


The foundation towards the redefinition of sports development in Offa was laid on Monday at the Offa Descendants Union (ODU) Secretariat, Offa, with the constitution and inauguration of a 13-man Offa Sports Board of Trustees by the Oloffa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Mohammed Oloyede Okikiola Ilufemiloye Esuwoye II.

The initiative may have been triggered following the successful organization of the just concluded Offa Community Olympics, tagged ‘Ebenezery Easter Games 2018’.

The BOT, which will be chaired by Prince Soji Olagunju was handed the triple mandate of discovering talents, using sports to unite Offa and its neighbouring communities and also to facilitate the construction facilities for other sports at the Oloffa Township Stadium, a facility that was initiated in 1982, and which up till date has only the main football pitch and few pavilions.

Also inaugurated was the management of the Amateur team, Offa Football Club, which will begin its campaign in the Nationwide League One on Friday, with a match against Ajiroba Ooni, in Offa.
Oba Mufutau said that the initiative was part of his plans to develop Offa, especially the youths, so as to broaden security system by getting them engaged meaningfully, and curb social vices.

He charged the BOT to carry all the surrounding communities along, to encourage peaceful co-existence and unity.

The Royal Father thanked Prince Soji Olagunju, President and Executive members of the ODU and others for their support.

The National President of the ODU, Alhaji Najeemdeen Yasin, who praised the initiative commended Oba Mufutau for his support, and for encouraging enabling atmosphere for the development of youth and sports in the area.

He charged the youths to take advantage of the great opportunity, and urged them to always be good ambassadors of the Local Government anywhere they found themselves.

In huis acceptance speech, Prince Soji Olagunju thanked Oba Mufutau and the ODU for the opportunity given him, promising that the BOT will swing into action immediately, and will also deliver.

Prince Olagunju said that the club, Offa Football Club has completed its registration for the nationwide League, and that all arrangement has been put in place to ensure a smooth campaign.
He called on all to rally round the team, saying that ‘the team belongs to Offa’.

Over N7million was raised at the gathering, with the formal launching scheduled for later date.
