The Sealed Sky Bank Office in Ilorin
After following the ruling of the revenue court which include serving of assessment, notice of default, sitting on round table for dialogue amongst others, the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS) finally resorts to the last option by sealing off Skye bank Ilorin for non-remittance of withholding taxes and other statutory charges to the tune of over N30milion to the state government.
This has left the two branches in the city under lock and key by the enforcement team of the service.
Staffs were seen in clusters standing outside the bank premises and customers coming for the transaction but were also stopped by the team from entering and people were disallowed from even using the ATM at both branches.
The director, Legal and Enforcement, Lateef Okandeji Esq. who is the leader of the team revealed to press men that the action followed a judgment delivered on 22nd January 2018.
Okandeji said that the Bank had failed to remit statutory taxes, including withholding taxes on bank interest for 2 years in the sum of Thirty million, sixty eight thousand, four hundred and seventy one naira (N30, 068, 471.22)
The Director however noted that the Agency had resorted to lawful means to ensure compliance with statutory tax remittances, declaring that such would be a continual exercise as they will make sure that all defaulters comply with the law.
