Prompt payments of LG salary, my priority – PDP candidate

Comrade Musbaudeen Esinrogunjo is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairmanship Candidate for Ilorin West Local government election in the forth coming Local Government Council poll in Kwara State.

In this interview with ISSA SALIU and ISIAQ ALAFINJU, the youth activist spoke on how the crisis rocking the party was amicably settled, he unfold his plans for the people of his local government, also throws more lights on his mission to impact positively on the welfare of the people at grassroots and many other issues.

Comrade Musbaudeen Esinrogunjo,Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairmanship Candidate

Before coming to contest in the forth coming L.G election, what do you do for a living?
I have a unisex saloon, but my father was into petroleum business; I’m also a comrade, I held series of positions in youth organizations. Presently, I am the National President of the Arewa Ambassador Congress of Nigeria (AACN) and doubles as the Speaker, Youths Assembly of Nigeria (YAN), so, I think doing all these programmes and activities bring little resources as income.
Some party stalwarts have factionalized the party, how did you
become the sole candidate for the party?

I became the sole candidate of PDP in Ilorin West and with the blessing of the Almighty Allah I believe and hope that everything will be alright; even where we have a Father, Mother, Husband and wife with their children, crises are bound to happen; there is no way we can do without that but, the ability for every one with the leadership quality to manage the crises is what really matters.

PDP is a family that accommodates a lot of people, when you are trying to spread your tentacles, you may step on somebody’s toes or vice versa but the ability for people to come together as one and see themselves as party members is what we appreciate in PDP leadership.  Crises can come, party division may happen, interest may differ, with different interests there may be crises and when this happens, the leadership would come in to settle the crisis. PDP have the ability, however, nobody will believe that in Kwara State we can settle our differences; they believe we always fight endlessly, but today, glory be to God, we have been able to resolve all issues amicably, all of us remain one family. Five of us contested but at the end of the day, they all accepted defeat and agreed to work hand in hand with me; so, after crisis there will always be resolution.

How is the party preparing for the coming LG election?

Our party is fully prepared, though we may be having a little challenge on the forthcoming congress. You know when you are having congress, there will be a lot of interest, hard interest which can divide us as a people, but we are still thinking of how we can manage the crises surrounding the congress and think of how to forge ahead with our party campaign because we are fully prepared to let the ruling party know that the era where administration is being run by a single person is over.

We are not happy about what is happening in Kwara State today, where the administration is being run singlehandedly; but in PDP, even though there’s a leader, you still have council of Elders, everybody is free to express his or her own opinion; so, in doing that, the party has really rendered service to the humanity. Therefore, we are fully on ground and to God be the glory, the community accepted us and want us all us cost.

What is your agenda for the people of Ilorin West?

Firstly, my priority is the salaries of the civil servants; the local government staff salary is very paramount, because today, we don’t know how the crisis started, a situation whereby 10%, 25% and 35% are being paid is unacceptable, nobody knows and even care to know where other percentages and other allocations are. I think the constant payment of salaries will be paramount to me. Whatever is obtainable from our Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), the little projects we can do to impact meaningful life to our people will be executed, we have to look at all these primary schools and see how we can give them a quality education because the learning environment is not conducive. With our IGR, we can provide water, roads and many other amenities, years back; the Local Government Chairman couldn’t tar a 10km road.

It is astonishing how a local government can get about one hundred and ninety seven million or above as monthly allocation but cannot afford to construct a road or new classrooms and provide textbooks. Where we found ourselves in Kwara, there is mismanagement of funds and embezzlement so, my mission is to go there and rectify all these problems. I believe the people of Ilorin West would enjoy our administration and we too, are ready to serve them.

How do you appeal to the electorate to vote for your party?

It Is no more a question, if you go round every corner in Ilorin, you would think I am contesting for governorship seat, how popular I am, this is the time where the original son of the soil would be contesting and everybody is standing by to vote. They are ready to protect their votes, irrespective of their party affiliations; they really want to vote for their son this time around. They want positive change and not just change and our own is the change that would impact positively to the life of the poor, which is the kind of changes that we are planning to bring.
