I am physically sound, healthy – Yeketi

By Issa Saliu

The Kwara State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Engr. Musa Ayinla Yeketi, has reacted to a local newspaper (not National Moonlight) report on his picture where he was on crutches, which was displayed on the front page of the newspaper.

Yeketi in his swift reaction said he is ignorant of the intentions of the paper but confirmed that there was a phone-in radio programme of All Progressives Congress (APC) where he was asked about the rumor making rounds about his health.

He debunked the rumor, saying that there was no iota of truth in the speculations, he stressed that it was the handiwork of mischief makers.

"People kept asking if I collapsed and I answered no. I never slumped nor collapsed in office, I'm not even epileptic", he said. "I was surprised that the reporter failed to consult me for an interview to clarify the issue before going to the press", he complained.

He further said that the reporter never witnessed him falling in the office; he lamented that when the reporter saw him at Ajase-Ipo on crutches, he never came forward to inquire why, but on getting to his office, he decided to fabricate news about his condition.

Yeketi disclosed that what actually happened was just a minor injury that could happen to anyone during physical exercises.

He explained that the accident occurred while he was jogging during his usual morning fitness exercise leading to a dislocation on his ankle. He stressed that the dislocation does not disturb his official assignment as a commissioner nor his private life, but that his doctor advised him rest the ankle for a while.

He said “If I was incapacitated, I would not be at Ajase-Ipo, but due to my sound health, I followed the governor on the inspection visit to International Vocational Technical and Entrepreneurship College".

“Unknowing to me that you people are coming, I was on my farm working with other men, if I am not strong enough, would I be able to work on the farm?” he queried.

He said he was away from the office for some weeks because of his inability to climb up and down the staircase of his office. The commissioner also disclosed that he was in the government house on several occasions to have meetings with his Excellency and that he was at Ajase-Ipo as commissioner to perform his official function.

He declared himself as one of the press friendly commissioners in the state and didn't understand what the reporter and the editor of the newspaper had in mind by going to press with such picture.

He pointed out that the publication has caused panic among his family, friends, and well-wishers in the state and beyond.

"I want to assure the good people of Kwara that I will not at any time disappoint them and will continue to be loyal to the government, hard-work, remain committed and dedicated to service to humanity", he maintained.
